Reading

“Books are the life of our times, old and young alike are in need of them”. V.G.Belinsky

Reading is one of the major classes at primary level at Cambridge Russian Academy. Classes are conducted in conjunction with Russian Language classes. The main goal of Reading is not only to improve pupils’ reading skills and widen their vocabulary, but also to instil an interest in and appreciation of the printed word.

Books help create a rounded personality: children learn to be responsive, to sympathise with a book’s characters, to rejoice at their successes and to be saddened by their failures. Children use their imagination and learn to express their thoughts in Russian.

Classes include conversations with pupils about the content of what they have read, their impressions, answers to questions, deliberation, re-telling of texts, expressive reading of books or extracts, reading out loud for different characters in a book, and reciting by heart.
